The Metropolitan DC Chapter of TransAfrica
Presents its Young Professionals Event POETRYFEST!

Admission: $5.00
On Saturday, September 20, the Metropolitan DC Chapter of
TransAfrica
presents performances by twelve notable poets at Mango's Fusion
Cuisine,
2017 Fourteenth Street NW. Young adults and professionals are
invited from
5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for an admission fee of $5.00. Prizes,
including
Washington Wizards tickets, an autographed Iyanla Vanzant book,
designer
clothing, movies, concert tickets, CD's, and restaurant
certificates, will
be awarded. Hors d'oeuvres will be served amidst the sounds of
urban and
ethnic music. Space is limited, so early arrival is suggested.
Founded in 1981, TransAfrica D.C. Chapter provides local support to
the
lobbying and educational efforts of the national organization -
TransAfrica
Forum, the Black American Lobby for Africa and the Caribbean. The
Chapter's
principal objectives are to raise the awareness and consciousness
of the
Washington area community and increase their involvement in
activities of
importance to Africa and the Caribbean. The Chapter actively raises
funds
to support its own activities and contribute to supporting the
national
organization.
The exotic Poetryfest will stimulate the young adult culture by
presenting
an array of poets from the U.S., St. Croix, Jamaica, St. Lucia,
Trinidad,
Guyana, Lesotho, and Nigeria. The twelve performers are the
incomparable
Abena Disroe, JaHipster, Queen Sheba, Ancient Tradition, KhaRabia
Rayford,
Louis Alexander Hemans, Dr. J. Edsel Edmunds, The 7-Foot Poet, C.
Jeanean
Gibbs, Kwesi Oginga, Mats’eliso Matseletsele, and Victor
Ehikhamenor.
Bill Fletcher, President of TransAfrica Forum; Danny Glover, Actor
and
Chairman of TransAfrica Forum; and Jeannie Jones, WKYS Radio
Personality
will make a special guest appearance.
