What
This summer something exciting will happen to Brooklyn: The food, culture, entertainment
and people of the Caribbean will merge at one location every Sunday Carifest Sundays.

Why
Not only does New York City boasts the largest Caribbean- American market, but some of New York Citys biggest cultural events were Caribbean oriented: 4 million people for the Labor day parade, 65,000 at the Caribbean-American day in the Bronx, and more than 20 thousand people attended Islands in the Park annually. Though the last two events don't take place anymore, the need for holding those Caribbean family events has not disappeared, and Carifest Sundays is an enhanced reintroduction of the Caribbean culture in New York.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LINDEN E WALTERS 10TH ANNUAL MASTERS SOCCER TOURNAMENT

Prince Georges County---Ten teams will be vying for the tenth annual Linden E. Walters Masters Trophy on July 7th at the Prince Georges Community College Soccer Field.  Masters Teams from Jamaica, Canada, Philadelphia, New York and Washington Metropolitan Area will be competing in a Round-Robin style tournament.   The tournament will kick off at 10:00 a.m. with an Under 16 youth soccer playoff.

The tournament is a memorial to Linden E. Walters who died suddenly on the playing field after a game of soccer on July 12th 1997.  Mr. Walters was a native born son of Guyana, South America and continued his childhood love for the game of soccer while a student at the University of the District of Columbia and upon graduation played with community teams within the Washington Metropolitan Area.

The tournament is preceded by a Free Soccer Clinic for youth ages on Friday July 6th at Prince Georges Community College.  GOAL  the acronym  for Go Out And  Learn  is the team for the soccer clinic.  This concept incorporates the values which Linden Walters upheld. Setting goals and striving to achieve them. The participants are not only exposed to the technical skills of soccer, but a didactic teaching of the origin, history and international perspective of soccer.

Returning for its sixth year, the Hip-Hop Theater Festival arrives this summer with an exhilarating plethora of performance, dance and poetry. Highlights include: Jerry Quickley’s Live from the Front about a B-boy in Baghdad at the start of the war and J. Kyle Manzay’s The Actor’s Rap!, a comedy about a group of frustrated actors who take matters into their own hands as rappers relentlessly steal their roles in film and theater. Local playwrights and performers include Holly Bass; Bashi Rose; Hueman Prophets, Goldie Patrick and poets from Sol y Soul. And thanks to the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities, The Hip-Hop Theater Festival is proud to present all events free of charge.
