Washington, DC – Join Sonnig Records and a stellar host
committee on Friday, March
24, 2006, from 5:00 – 9:00 PM for the launch of Come to Washington: A Song for the
City, a campaign to name Come
to Washington DC’s unofficial song! The free campaign launch
celebration will be held at Jenny’s Asian Fusion, 1000 Water Street, SW. The
first 15 guests to arrive receive a delicious bottle of California Sauvignon
Blanc with a souvenir Come
to Washington label. The
next 15 guests win a “Famous People of U Street” poster courtesy of Cultural
Tourism DC.
Sonnig Records’ artist Lincoln Ross had his song Come
to Washington selected by an Emmy Award winning producer for the
premiere of the ABC 7 news magazine show, Metropolitan Edition, in October 2005.
Ross later performed during the broadcast. The song, written by the native DC veteran musician (Count
Basie, Donald Byrd) and which points out some of Washington's finest attributes,
received such a favorable response that Sonnig Records had it professionally
recorded. In November 2005, a
celebration of Come to Washington’s success was held, where Lincoln Ross
presented a plaque containing the song’s lyrics to DC Poet Laureate, Dolores
Kendrick.
Hosted by native Washingtonian sports anchor, Glenn
Harris, the atmosphere of the Come
to Washington: A Song for the City launch will invite nibbling on
succulent hors d’oeuvres and mingling with Washington notables, as a
videographer randomly films individual guests singing Come
to Washington and telling their stories about DC.
DJ Master J will play decades of hits, making sure to spin records by
DC’s Roberta Flack, Fugazi, Chuck Brown, Duke Ellington, Mary Ann Redmond,
Marvin Gaye, Andy Zipf, Shirley Horn, Hood Life Money, Marcus Johnson, Welbilt,
Eddie & Denise and the Good Time Band, and Ronnie Wells.
A painted canvas created by a local artist will be on site for guests to
sign or doodle on, to show support of the song.
Photo opportunities with Lincoln Ross will be available, amidst Jenny’s
gorgeous sunset view. An after
party follows at 10:00 PM.
Plans are underway for several exciting Come
to Washington campaign activities.
One such activity will be to have the launch’s interactive painting on
public display followed by a charity auction for the piece during a gala, later
this year. Join Sonnig Records and
the Come
to Washington: A Song for the City host committee in this city-unifying
effort that will, in turn, further brighten the image of this vibrant city.
