A RYTHMNS
& HEALING FESTIVAL IN MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA
Burnette
Travel presents a Rythmns & Healing Festival celebration at
the Caribbean Soul Villa in Montego Bay, Jamaica on August 14 to
August 20, 2007. A week of fun, health awareness is scheduled
for all genres as the world has now endorsed better health
related to longer life.
Your
health is your wealth when you attend the week of traditional
healing as lectures and seminars will present a guide to a
healthier lifestyle on issues of diabetes, high blood
pressure, cancer, aids, obesity just to name a few…
Healer
Mama Nyaah is the CEO and Natural Scientist of De Healing
Village and who was tutored at a very early age by her
paternal grandmother, a traditional healer and midwife from
Trinidad & Tobago, as well as working with renowned
Traditional Healer Dr. Sebi, director of Usha Herbal Research
Institute. This is the foundation that has
nurtured Mama Nyaah and catapulted her to be one of the most
effective and sought after Natural Lifestyle Consultant Mama
Nyaah will be one of the healers at this festival offering her
expertise and support.
Baba
Mpho is a Griot in the full consciousness of the word, and
started to learn about herbalist modalities in Bourda Market
with his grandmother. Baba became a medic after he attended
Hospital Corps School in Great Lakes and Field Medical School
in Camp Le Jeune in North Carolina; thence the start of his
traditional culture in the healing arts began which has
spanned the past 25 years. Baba has also decided to join the
festival and do what he does best helping folks in his
traditional healing.
The
above healers are just some of the traditional healers who
will be attending, lending their expertise through seminars
and workshops. Healing is a continuous journey and should be
dealt with consistently, so it becomes necessary for these
traditional healing festivals being held to reach everyone.
Music will also be an integral part of this festival with
entertainers such as Marlon Jahpan Man, M & M Sounds,
Marlon Jardine King of Folk, Harmonica Man, Nigerian Lynch,
drumming, reggae, shanto, soca mentos and more. Food
preparation, yoga, deep breathing exercise is all a part of
this healing festival event.
Relax at the beautiful
Caribbean Soul Villa in warm sunshine, whilst certified
masseuse, Acupuncturist, and Therapist, eases your stress.
This
festival promises to be a fun filled and health conscious
affair. For more info and booking call Burnette Travel at

HANG -
Caribbean Literary and Cultural Center
Flatbush Library, 22
Linden Blvd. Brooklyn NY
The Literary Hang, an off
shoot of the Annual Symposium will take place at the Caribbean Literary
and Cultural Center, Flatbush Library, 22 Linden Blvd. Brooklyn NY, on
August 31 from 3 to 6 pm.
Each year since 2003, writers of many voices from all over the world
gather for the Symposium. However, because of limitations of space
and time, writers have not been able to meet together exclusively. There
have been many conversations about writing at the Symposia, the most
noteworthy being 2004 when, in a room overflowing with an appreciative
and interacting audience at Columbia University, it became clear that
Guyanese have been busy recording their memories and creating an
exciting new thrust in word. We remember that Wordsworth McAndrew
refused to move and Ken Corsbie told the surprised audience that nearly
four hours had gone by. The Literary Hang, 2007, gives to these men and
women of the word their own space to present and discuss their works
within our community.
Slated to attend, either to present their works or introduce the writers
are Cyril Browne, Godfrey Chin, Godfrey Wray, Yvonne McCallum-Peters,
Cicely Rodway, Lloyd Andries, Oronde Giddings, Oliver Hinckson, Claud
Leandro, Shakoor Manraj, Peter Kempadoo, Maurice Braithwaite and Roslin
Khan. Cyril Dabydeen who presents the Symposium Address this year will
be reading from a selection of his award winning works. Poets,
dramatists, novelists and non fiction writers such as Rosalind Kilkenny
McLymont and Ken Corsbie are invited. Books by Frank Thomasson,
Bernard Heydorn, Paloma Mohamed, Mike and Trevor Phillips and
others will be on display.
At this event Godfrey Chin will be premiering his long awaited docutext,
Nostalgias
.
We welcome this
opportunity to celebrate the Guyanese Word.
