WHAT'S HAPPENING by Todd Mangatal Greetings
To all, my on-line family: I want to begin by saying may all who have suffered, and is suffering from Hurricane Ivan be comforted in your time of lost and sorrow. Jah only knows why this is happening and we at Arious pray that all this tragedy and destruction ends soon! As you all may know Hurricane Ivan slammed ashore in the US in Alabama during the early hours yesterday (Thursday) with winds of 130 mph. It brought in deadly tornadoes in Florida, massive pounding waves that toppled beach houses, and torrential rains all along the Gulf Coast. It is reported that the rains will flood communities from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle. Additionally, Ivan knocked out power, toppled trees, ripped off roofs, and signs, and 12 deaths (so far) are blamed on this deadly storm (here in the U.S.), but officials said the toll and the damage could have been even worse. Somehow, it didn’t do as much damage as expected…Thank God!!!! As for the islands, we understand at least 68 people have died, one (1) in Tobago (a pregnant woman); thirty-nine (39) in Grenada along with the destruction of approximately 90% of its homes, and it even destroyed a prison. One (1) in Barbados, and it damaged hundreds of homes and cut off all utilities. Five (5) in Venezuela; fifteen (15) in Jamaica along with lots of flooded homes and washed away roads; four (4) in the Dominican Republic; and three (3) in Haiti. This has been one of the most destructive storms in a number of years, and now it will take a major relief effort to help bring back things to (somewhat) normal for our families and friends in the Caribbean. So many relief efforts here in Washington DC/Maryland is taking place, as a matter of fact all over the US. Call your Embassy for details. We at Arious, and many among our on-line family have dedicated ourselves to helping our friends at Caribbean Connection with all their relief efforts, so contact the President of Caribbean Connection Beverlee Dawkins at 301-455-3576 or the Vice President Yolanda Alleyne at 301-580-5866 for more details, or myself (Todd) here at Arious. See Message from Caribbean Connection below, and Please support our efforts!!!! According
to weather forecasters, the storm is heading North to Northeast and is
expected to bring lots of rain, flooding, damage to trees and power
lines, to our area in the next 2 days, especially to West Virginia and
Western Maryland. A new storm Jeanne has already lashed Puerto Rico with damaging winds and rain that knocked out power, flooded roads and killed two (2) people. The Dominican Republic Eastern and Northern Coasts are expected to be hit, due to Jeanne hugging its coastlines. According to the U.S. national Hurricane Center in Miami, Jeanne could possibly reach Florida, Georgia and South Carolina by the beginning of next week, To our on-line family, please be careful. Check this message below for more information on how you can help!
Now to a subject I love "Music", last week we checked out the Capleton, Coco Tea and Bush Man show, and it was very good. Oh yes, I must say the vibes was in DC/MD for a change last weekend. This was an outdoor show under the stars, and it felt good, all we were missing was the sounds of the ocean. I could not find much to complain about at this show, the sound was good, and the bands were outstanding. The prophesy band who backed up Coco Tea and Capleton were "off the hook". The additional artists from the "House of David" were very good as well. It was a night of pure vibes!!!!!
Congratulations to Marion Barry on winning the city counsel seat in Ward 8. This is truly an example of the saying "You can't keep a good man down", even we know they have tried in every way possible. Big Up Marion Barry!!!!!
