THIS WEEK EVENTS IN
WASHINGTON DC, BALTIMORE MD, AND MORE
| WHAT'S HAPPENING
Greetings To all, my on-line family: Last weekend was yet another Carnival in this
area. It was the 1st
Annual Prince George’s County, Maryland Cultural Heritage
Festival/Carnival. Well,
what can I say about this Carnival?
Hum…only that maybe next year will be a better year for the
organizers and the actual event! I’m
really sorry to sound like a “hater”, but many will agree with me
that this was not at all as we expected.
The main problem being marketing, which was not done adequately
at all, in my opinion it was a “well kept secret”.
Additionally, the parade left much to be desired, even though I
absolutely commend the few DC Carnival Mas bands that were a part of the
parade. However, from talks among folks, they/we all expected to get a
glimpse of all cultures in the parade (Hispanic, Haitian, Jamaican,
Trinidadian, Chinese, etc.) all we got was a lot of Politicians, and of
course (as I mentioned above) about 4 Mas Bands (Trinidad).
The location was great, but (this year) extremely too huge for
the few people that came out to this Carnival/Festival.
The performances that was lined up was good too, but again, there
were very little people in attendance to enjoy the music and food.
I know the vendors must have suffered.
Anyway, maybe next year the organizers will realize that MARKETING
of this event is the KEY FACTOR. If
any among my on-line family attended, please let me know your thoughts
about this event, my e-mail address is todd@ariousentertainment.com. For the first time, this past Saturday Susan (my
wife) and I attended the Trinidad and Tobago All Star Soccer Tournament.
This was really a nice, relaxing event.
All the “who’s who”, and then some, in our area came out to
lime and check out the tournament, it was like a Caribbean day in the
park. There were lots of
food in abundance, lots of flowing drinks and good “old talk” (as my
wife would say) It was really nice liming, vibing and talking with folks
from the Trinidadian Community. By
the way the winner of the tournament was Team United from DC,
congratulations to them for winning this tournament! Can’t wait for the upcoming tournaments, the
first one will take place next week.
It is the “Crimson Sports Club Annual
Caribbean/Latin/African/American Soccer Tournament” being held next
Saturday, July 24th from 8am to 11pm, at the Fairland
Regional Park in Briggs Chaney, Maryland. This should be another nice family event.
There will be teams competing from MD, DC, VA, NY, PA, & NC.
See my ad below for more details.
Additionally, look out for the West Indian National Association
“24th Annual Trinidad and Tobago Round Robin Soccer
Tournament”, being held on Saturday, August 24th at Lake
Clifton Park, Baltimore, Maryland.
See the ad below for more details.
These events are always nice, so come out and bring the family
and support our local soccer teams. Well, the Carnival season is heating up in
Baltimore, on Saturday June 23rd-25th, is “The
Caribbean/American Association of Baltimore” 2004 Baltimore Carnival.

June 23rd with the King, Queen and Individual Costume
Competition in Druid Hill Park featuring entertainment by The Panama
Band, plus food, arts and crafts, steel bands, stilt dancers and limbo.
On Saturday, it’s the costume street parade on Park Heights
Avenue starting at 12 Noon, followed by performances in Druid Hill Park
by Crystal Paul and more, don’t forget the foods and arts and crafts
will be located in the Park as well.
On Sunday is the last day, “The Carnival Explosion” featuring
Traffic, Rikki Jai, Sexy Arlene and the Angel’s band, plus lots of
local talent, all at Druid Hill Park.
