What's Going On? By Todd Mangatal (todd@ariousentertainment.com) I want to begin by extending sincere thanks to all of you (my On-Line Community and family) for your wonderful comments and responses to my review of DC Carnival. Most importantly, it is clear that many of you understood my comments regarding the reason why a $5.00 fee was charged to enter the "Carnival Plaza". I received massive amount of interesting feedback from folks locally at every event I attended this past weekend...Thanks to all of you. It's good that people are thinking and talking...that's the only way we as a Community can resolve and understand important issues, and I'm sure your feedback will be used to make DC Carnival more successful in the future. To John Blake (Host of Caribbean Experience on WHUR radio - Saturday Nights beginning at Midnight to 6 am Sunday Morning), my wife and I appreciate you tremendously, and all you do and have done throughout the years, and your comments are well received and appreciated. (See Our Message board to view his comments). Additionally, the funniest comment was from one of our On-Line Community that stated "DC Carnival was sold to the White Man". I have never heard this rumor before, and therefore had no clue it existed. Very interesting comment! (See Message Board for Entire Comment). Others had some real good suggestions for next year. Click
here for all comments - Please note that I have asked my wife to forward all your comments to her fellow board members on the DC Carnival Committee so that your feelings and suggestions will be heard and discussed, and possibly be used while planning for next years' event. I'm sure the committee will send some feedback. For those who requested that I add some Carnival Photos, I myself was too busy to capture any, but my associate Rico (Photographer and Videographer) captured many for his Carnival Video, and was kind enough to send me some to add to this e-mail. To View All Photos
including Rico's Carnival photos PLEASE

To view Rico's site log on to www.rico.islandmix.com. To anyone in our on-line community/family who wishes to share your photos, and afford us the opportunity to view your work, please contact me todd@ariousentertainment.com. We will include them in next week's e-mail.
While I am on Carnival, this past Sunday we went by the X-roads for their "Cool Out Sundays" which is normally a nice relaxing vibe on a Sunday evening. This week they had a special addition - they held their victory party for "1st place winner for band of the year" in the DC Carnival. Their event was well attended, and they did a great job of spreading the word that they will also be participating in Baltimore Carnival this coming weekend. Yes, this weekend all roads lead to Baltimore for their Carnival. On Friday Baltimore Carnival will be holding their "King and Queen" Competition from 6pm to 9pm at Druid Hill Park. Saturday is the Parade starting on Park Heights Avenue at 12 noon and there will also be entertainment and vendors in the Park from 11am to 9pm. Sunday is the "Carnival Explosion" featuring Super P, The Oasis Band, Blue Ventures, T&T Steel band, Dexter Keane, and a special Children's Carnival. This should be a good 3 day event because Baltimore really has the potential to put on a great Carnival, especially since their parade route is really long and it ends up in Druid Hill Park that has lots of space for vendors, entertainment and lots of room for spectators to relax. For More Info log on to www.bcacarnival.com, or click on to our "Events Page" here and scroll down to view Flyer. I want to congratulate Lesia H. Quamina and Finiana S. Joseph for organizing the first 2nd Friday (in the month) Caribbean Professional Networking Happy Hour Series at Zanzibar on the Waterfront. This event kicked Off last week and the next one will be held on August 8th. Make sure you put this on your calendars, because this is an event you don't want to miss. It seems their was a need for this forum (Caribbean Professionals to network and connect with fellow Caribbean nations and friends), because the turn-out was wonderful, and everyone I've talked to over the weekend expressed how much they enjoyed themselves. Lesia...Thanks for you great comments regarding us (Arious) getting the word out to our On-Line Community, and we are looking forward to the next one on August 8th. For more info. log on to www.zanzibar-otw.com.
Last week I described in great detail how much I enjoyed the Abyssinians show with Sister Nancy and Brigadier Jerry, along with Downbeat International that took place on June 26th, at "Irie Thursdays". Well, the Crossroads is keeping the vibes going on Thursday nights at "Irie Thursdays". This week they've got one of the greatest reggae artist of all times...Freddie McGregor. Freddie and his friends will be in the place performing all their hits. It will take place outside on the patio, if the weather permits. So lets pray for No Rain, because there is nothing like reggae music under the stars, under the coconut trees, with the good food grilling around us. Freddie has been a part of reggae music for many years, he started at a very young age and has been entertainment us for over 25 years. This is a show that you don't want to miss. If you want to mentally be taken away on a Thursday evening then beat me to the Crossroads for what I think will be one of the best shows this year. The Crossroads will be bringing a lot of entertainment to the DC area this summer. They just completed many renovations and expansions. Now you can enjoy the shows in comfort and have lots of space to move, as well as have better views. This past Saturday night we were blessed with the sounds of "Sanchez" another great reggae artist who's no stranger to the Crossroads and the DC area. It's always a joy to see "Sanchez", the show was wonderful, his band (The Chronic Band) was especially good, and Tinga Stewart and Flourgan were good. It really brought back many memories, because their songs have been the "song track" of our life (my wife and I). Don't forget "The Roads" will take $5.00 off the admission fee to Freddie's show on Thursday, to all who present their ticket stub from last Saturday's Sanchez Show. This is their way of saying thanks for all your support! This Saturday - July 19th is Rory (Stone Love) big Birthday Bash at the "Roads", with special guest Lady Saw. Come out and celebrate with Rory, and enjoy the sounds of Lady Saw. In addition to Stone Love, music will be provided by Crossroads regular DJ's who will be on hand to keep you moving.
