Brooklyn, New York
New York Council Woman Yvette Clarke is running for Congress
and one of our own Mr. Ernest Skinner (who recently moved back
home to New York) is raising funds to assure Ms. Clarke's
victory on September 12th.
Mr.
Ernest Skinner, one of our own community leaders here in
Washington DC, moved back to New York approximately a
year ago, and he has resumed his role as a community activist.
He informed us that he has stepped back into his old role
in an attempt to influence the outcome of the 11th
Congressional District Seat in his home town of Brooklyn, New
York. His first
step was hitting the streets in very hot weather collecting
signatures to get Yvette Clarke on the ballot. We are proud to
know that he obtain several hundred+ signatures, and Ms.
Clarke’s campaign
submitted well over 10,000. He is now currently raising funds to
assure the victory in the Primary on September 12th. Mr. Skinner
and two of his friends are hosting a fundraiser for Ms.
Yvette Clarke on August 17th to aid her effort. So to all our
New York On-line family, please support Mr. Skinner and his
partners in their efforts by attending his fundraiser for Councilwoman
Yvette Clarke with her candidacy for the 11th Congressional
District seat. Click
Here to See the details on the fundraiser and the location.
Ms.
Yvette Clarke’s campaign has gained national attention because
of its Voting Rights dynamic and the attempt of an interloper to
buy his way into the fray. Please support Ms. Clarke and
be as generous as possible.

We would like to
congratulate another person from our community who just
published a book. Congratulations to Dr. J. Edsel Edmunds, Former
Ambassador of St. Lucia to the UN, OAS, and US
on
publishing
THE TRIANGLE OF SUCCESS
“For our Youth, Leaders of Tomorrow”
The book The Triangle of Success by Dr. J. Edsel Edmunds
will inspire, motivate, and empower our young generation to
achieve their potential. It has been recommended by distinguished educators as
required reading at all levels, for students, parents, teachers and
youth leaders. It
encourages all of us to engage ourselves in a process of continuing
education for “what we know is infinitesimally small compared to
what we do not know.” It
propels us to discover the enormous potential within us and to develop
an enquiring mind. The author alludes to the differences and
commonalities of humankind and at the same time points the way towards
a reduction of world conflicts, and contribution to world peace, all
symbolized by the geometric interrelated points of a triangle.

Imperia is an exhilarating exploration of the

archetypal forms of carnivalesque ritual, both carnal

Bollywood
Fashion Awards
- July 29, 2006
Press
Release
July
26th 2006
SHOWBIZ
LEGEND BEN VEREEN TO RECEIVE SPECIAL “SAMMY
DAVIS
JR AWARD” AT THE BOLLYWOOD FASHION AWARDS
The
family of legend Sammy Davis Jr. has chosen the
Bollywood Fashion Awards to be the platform for the
special “Sammy Davis Jr. Award.” Sammy
Davis Jr.,
often described as "the world's greatest
entertainer” also epitomized the symbiotic
relationship between entertainment and fashion which,
fittingly, is the mantra of the Bollywood Fashion
Awards.
Ben
Vereen is a true American legend. The Tony
winner’s name is synonymous with a myriad of Broadway
shows including Jesus Christ
Superstar, Pippin, Sweet Charity, Wicked and The
Wizard of Oz. He also had many notable
film roles in hit movies such as Funny
Lady and All
That Jazz. In television, he was the
star of Tenspeed
and Brown Shoe. He also appeared in
popular series such as The
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, The Jamie Foxx Show, Star-Trek
The Next Generation, and The
Nanny but will always be remembered for his
role as “Chicken” George Moore in the cult TV Series
Roots. Vereen
followed these achievements with his own network
special, "Ben Vereen: His Roots," which won
seven Emmy Awards. He also appeared in "The Jesse
Owens Story," and the CBS mini-series, "
Ellis Island
," for which he received a Golden Globe nomination.
Most recently, Vereen graced the Broadway stage starring
as 'The Ghost of Christmas Present' in the
Madison
Square
Garden
production of "A Christmas Carol" to
outstanding reviews
“We
were initially going to keep the honoree name a surprise
but we were just to excited and honored that, Ben Vereen,
a legend, will be participating in this year’s
Awards,” said Chairman of the Bollywood Awards, Kamal
Dandona. His excitement is evident, especially
because, the Bollywood Awards has achieved another
“first.” It was the first South Asian Awards
ceremony to have an international celebrity participate
in the festivities. Michael Jackson attended the
inaugural ceremony of the Bollywood Awards in 1999 and
now, the Bollywood Awards, is the first to have an
Honorary Award instituted by the family of an American
legend, an honor indeed.
Major
celebrities like Tyra Banks, Jerry Hall, Steven Seagal,
Jean-Claude Van Damme, Nikki Hilton, and many others
have donned Indian outfits and finery at past Fashion
Awards. This year will be no exception. The
Bollywood Fashion Awards 2006 will be the 6th
annual gala event of international stature honoring the
outstanding achievements of Indian fashion designers
during the prior year. Unlike any fashion awards of its
kind, the event will bring together the top
international designers, most ravishing models, and the
hottest celebrities together to honor the colliding
worlds of fashion and entertainment. The Awards will be
held at the world-famous Roseland Ballroom. For
over 75 years, the Roseland Ballroon has hosted concerts
and fashion shows for the likes of for Madonna and
Versace respectively.
Past
Designers who have set the catwalk on fire at the
previous Bollywood Fashion Awards include: Manish
Malhotra, Neeta Lulla, Tarun Tahiliani, Ritu Beri,
Suneet Varma, Diane Von Furstenberg, Anne Bowen
(Designer to Gwyneth Paltrow, Liz Hurley, etc.).
The designers showcasing their collection this year
are the fashion guru to the stars Manish Malhotra and
India
’s most celebrated new designer, Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
