Lately I've been getting a lot of feedback from on our on-line community about our DJs in this area. It seems that top DJs here (in DC/Md/VA) who play Reggae Music has lost their zeal to expand their musical talent and skills.

Every event/club I go to, the DJs are playing music that they have played for the last 10 years, and in the same order. It's a shame that I can tell what song is going to come next.

When will DJs not be afraid to take a chance and play new songs? There are tons of new music that is released every day, but we never hear it in the clubs/dances/events or even on the radio (since radio is so limited).

Sometimes people wonder why the dances are "rammed" when an out of town DJ or sound is playing. This is the reason why...people are tired of the same old songs with no variety or originality. We shouldn't have to wait for out of town DJs to come to town in order for us to hear new music, see new dances, etc.

I think the DJs should get back to where they started, with a love for the music and realize if they want support, the people must be entertained. It is their job to entertain us.

People out there...what do you think? Is this just a DC thing or is this going on everywhere?

My Take of Atlanta Carnival by Bajan C  from Washington, DC     De Soca Bus hosted by The Minister (Vasco) and Garage Boys had de Highway rocking as we headed for Atlanta Carnival.  I enjoyed Atlanta Carnival, however I believe the venue (The Underground) was too small and congested to host the Carnival.  As per the Atlanta Carnival Committee, they will seek to find a different venue for next years carnival.  De soca bus crew attended some nice parties.  J'ouvert at the pan yard was too...too  nice. Big up to Trinbago massive out of NY with some sweet, sweet iron rhythms, look fa them for DC Carnival.  I 'm hoping that we in the Community will support all upcoming events no matter who is giving them. Commentary on Orlando Carnival by Natalie Baxter.   Natalie is an independent booking agent, for Freedom Souldier Innertainment, and is currently representing two reggae bands with members hailing from the Caribbean, Mystic Vibrations and Lazo & The Radikals, both from Jamaica.   A friend (Trinidad) and myself (USA) headed down to Florida Memorial day weekend and I received your email on the weekends events so we swung through Orlando and caught the afternoon/night time events of the first night of carnival.  We had a great time.  I just wanted to show respect and give thanks to those who put the event on.  It seemed the crowd was somewhat less than expected but I really learned so much about the culture of Trinidad/Tobago- I  loved the calypso contest, I now have a new found appreciation of of that style of music, with its double meanings and the costumes were beautiful.  Also, the lady President who was announcing did great at holding things together and keeping the vibes up!   I had a great time, I and look forward to catching some action this June for Carnival in DC!  Keep up the good work!  Oh and the pans...I have seen them played but not up close, to see just how they are made - I just thought that was amazing,  they just sounded wonderful.  I'm so glad that in this country there are so many different kinds of people to learn so many new things from.  I think about how iI grew up- in a pretty non-diverse kind of world, I very much love all of my new friends, from so many new places and I think the more we each share the beauty of our cultures instead of focusing on the nastiness of the past (recognize it, just not focus on it) then in time the world will be a much sweeter place to embrace and enjoy life. thanks again.  To give your comments on Orlando Carnival, please click here and place it on our "Message Board"
