DC CARNIVAL IS IN THE AIR!!!!
|
DC Carnival is upon us – just 2 days away. You can just image how busy everyone is…preparing for this annual event. The Carnival organizers are taking care of all the final preparations and plans for the parade and the festival site, and making sure everything is in place to accommodate the massive amounts of people who will line Georgia Avenue for the parade. The Bandleaders are busy in their “mas camps” preparing costumes for last minute masqueraders/participants, and putting final touches on costumes, and their individual pieces, along with their king and queen costumes. The promoters are refilling the outlets with their flyers and tickets for their events taking place in town this weekend. Club owners are basically cleaning out their safes making way for all the Carnival cash that will be definitely “rolling” in this weekend. Yes, it’s real exciting in this area and will be for the next 3 days. Carnival
Check In – Hit us back and let us know if you are coming to DC Carnival
and what city you are from ariousentertainment@earthlink.net.
We
would like to congratulate Simone Carr for placing first (1st)
in the Queen Competition that took place last Sunday at the DiManche Gras
Show. Ms.
Carr is the queen for our “Sweetheart” section, and a queen she
certainly is. Once you see
beautiful Ms. Carr and her beautiful costume, designed by Jackie
Cumberbatch (Jackie and Associates) you will see why she won.
She surly reflected a “Sweetheart”, and most importantly the
costume itself certainly depicted a heart in its red splendor!
Check it out on the road on Saturday, and let us know your
thoughts. This
is your last chance to join Arious Entertainment, Ice Entertainment and
Jackie & Associates for 2005 DC Caribbean Carnival. Our section is sold out, but you can still join us, because
we think Jackie and Associates has a few costumes left in a few of his
other beautiful sections. Contact
Jackie or Janet at 301-565-9037. This weekend (as you know) will be “off the hook”, with lots of Carnival “fetes” and events taking place around Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia. Start
of Tonight…tonight…tonight, Thursday, June 23, 2005, with DC Caribbean
Carnival, Inc.’s Soca Sound Clash.

The parade starts at Georgia Avenue and Missouri Street at 10:00 am, and it continues down the Avenue for approximately 3 miles of Carnival. The fun continues in the Banneker Recreational Park, which opens at 12:00 noon, with an array of food and craft vendors, non-stop Caribbean entertainment (Burning Flames, Iwer and Jason Benz), and more “feting”. There is a $5.00 admission fee to enter, but be assured it’s well worth it, so support the Carnival because where else could you get all of this culture and entertainment for such a small fee.
Saturday
night check out the Powder fete at T&T Clubhouse on Georgia Avenue, or
just “Glow” as usual at the DC Tunnel, but our pick for Saturday night
is where Reggae meets Soca for the first time in the history of DC
Carnival. Never have we had a
party for DC Carnival with 2 of the biggest Caribbean acts on one stage,
well, the Crossroads has done it again.
They have brought together Machal Montano (The king of soca) and
International Dancehall artist Elephant Man.
This is sure to be the hottest show of the 2005 DC Carnival.
Ops, we almost forget WCK from Dominica will also be performing,
plus music by DJs Sprang international, Bobby’s Music Machine, Andy Mix,
Jet Li, and Slice. This is an
indoor and outdoor event complete with Palm Trees and everything to make
you feel like you are in the Caribbean.
