Greetings
on-line family!
I start of our
E-Newsletter this week on a sad note because of the horror China
is experience due to the sizable earthquake that struck there
region earlier this week. Its only been a few
days since I last spoke with you via our newsletter and
mentioned the many disasters taking place around the world, and here it is we are seeing the
horror of this incredible earthquake that measured 7.9 on the
Richter Scale. It's awful witnessing the tears and sadness of the mothers who are grieving for their
babies (who are buried under the collapsed schools); entire
families just mourning for their loved ones who have been
killed;
and the suffering of many who were able to miraculously survive
this quake with just injuries and without losing their lives.
What is going on...I ask again - with these many astounding
natural disasters that
is occurring around the world?
This
earthquake was so powerful that it flattened schools, shops,
buildings and most importantly homes all across the region of
China. So many people are missing, people from entire
villages and towns who are either dead or buried alive.
The most recent estimates state that the official numerical
figure of the Thousands who are dead is 19,509 and
counting. There is approximately 12,300 who are still buried under
debris and buildings,
14,000 are missing and about 102,100 have sustained
injuries. As you can imagine the aftershocks are hitting
rapidly causing lots of folks to sleep outside of their homes in
inclement weather,
scared that if something else happens they would become trapped.
My heartfelt sympathy
goes out to the many suffering from this disaster, and may the
many who lost their life rest in peace. I pray that the
officials of China continue rescuing its citizens and most
importantly pray that they are given the strength to do this in
a timely manner. CLICK

Since
our TV and Cable Stations are monopolized with the Politics here
in the United States; we very rarely see any detailed coverage
on the earthquake, so below you will find I have added some
photos of the devastation. Click on the picture to launch

have included a video of raw footage taken of the earthquake as

This
has been an interesting and exciting week in Politics.
Senator Hilary Clinton had an enormous win on Tuesday in the
West Virginia primary, and of course she must be
congratulated! She received 67% of the votes compared to
Senator Obama's 28%, which is huge win!!! Senator Clinton
received 23 Delegates (20 Pledged and 3 Super) and Senator Obama
gained 10 delegates (8 Pledged and 2 Super).
This
West Virginia Primary brought a lot of issues to mind after
hearing Senator Clinton's interview with USA Today regarding the
folks who are voting for her in West Virginia. There is
indeed a lot of work to be done regarding race. Read
about Senator Clinton's Interview with USA Today - Courtesy
of MSNBC. Please CLICK HERE!
I'm
sure by now you know last weekend Senator Barack Obama gained
several Super Delegates and surpassed Senator Clinton, now he is
ahead with 17 Superdelegates. Therefore, as of today the
total count in this interesting race is as follows per CNN:
Senator Obama: 1899 (1608 Pledged and 291 Superdelegates); and
Senator Clinton 1719 (1445 Pledged and 274 Superdelegates).
Some
of the Superdelegates who endorsed Senator Obama stated their
reasons why they endorsed him, and I have place some of their
comments below.
| "After
careful consideration, I have reached the conclusion
that Barack Obama can best bring about the change that
our country so desperately wants and needs."
- Rep. Donald Payne (NJ-10)
"He has shown he
can connect with Democrats, Republicans and independents
across this country."
- Kevin Rodriquez (VI)
"It's time to come
together as a party and support Sen. Obama and prepare
for a victory against John McCain in November."
- Del. Jennifer McClellan
(VA-71)
|
The
most exciting thing that happened this week was Senator John
Edwards (Democratic
Candidate who was campaigning for the nomination, but pulled out
some months ago) endorsed
Senator Obama. This is extremely shocking, but pretty
tremendous!
Senator
Edwards during his endorsement speech in Grand Rapids, Michigan
this past Wednesday stated "We are here tonight because
the Democratic voters have made their choice, and so have I."
He further stated Obama "stands with me in a fight to cut
poverty in half within 10 years", and that
Senator Obama is "one
man who knows in his heart that it is time to create one
America, not two" WONDERFUL SPEECH!
(Listen and View the entire speech below)
Now
3 of Senator Edwards Superdelegates have endorsed Senator
Obama. They are Reps. James McDermott of Washington and
Henry Waxman and Howard Berman both of California. Rep.
McDermott stated: "I believe now is the time to unite
behind Barack Obama so we can be in the strongest place possible
to win in November".
Additionally,
the United Steelworkers Union announced it would now support
Senator Obama (they were backing Senator Edwards.) This
Union has 600,000 active members - blue color workers who has
favored Senator Clinton.
It's
certain now that Senator Obama is extremely close to clinching
the Democratic Nomination!!! He is definitely on the road
to becoming the next President of the United States.
I'm still
hearing a lot of talk about the Michigan and Florida votes being
counted. I just
don't understand how folks feel they need to defy the Democratic
National Committee (DNC) and rewrite its rules, especially since
it is so near to the "end of the game". All
candidates agreed to adhere to these rules and with the
sanctions set forth on Michigan and Florida (to strip them of
their delegates due to them holding their primaries
early). How could they now want to change things, which
will result in moving up the total delegates needed to win the
nomination to 2210 instead of 2025 (as it is now). Again,
rules that all the candidates agreed to adhere to (and some
did.) I understand on May 31st, the DNC will have hearings
on this issue, and will come up with a plan on how to resolve
the fact that the voters in Michigan and Florida are not disenfranchised.
I guess we will have to wait and see what they come up
with. I do hope it will
be a FAIR solution to this
matter.
I see
now the Republicans, actually President Bush and Senator McCain
are beginning to severely attacking Senator Obama. During
a speech the President made in Jerusalem for Israel's 60th
anniversary, Bush suggested that some Democrats were acting in
the same way some Western leaders did when they appeased Hitler
in the "runup" to World War II. He further
called it a "foolish delusion" to think the U.S. can
negotiate with terrorists (a blatant attack on Obama) Part
of his speech is listed below, but you can read all about this
speech by CLICKING
HERE TO READ THE ENTIRE ARTICLE - Courtesy of CNN: . Senator
McCain wholeheartedly endorsed President Bush's veiled rebuke on
Senator Obama that talking to terrorists and radicals" was
no different than appeasing Hitler and the Nazis.
"As
Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator
declared: 'Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of
this might have been avoided.' We have an obligation to call
this what it is: the false comfort of appeasement, which has
been repeatedly discredited by history," he said while
speaking to Israel's parliament, the Knesset.
Finally,
I was surprised to hear John McCain stated in a speech he gave
in Columbus, Ohio, on May 15th; that the Iraq war can be won by
2013 and that most of the troops will be home by then as well
(2013), He further stated he envisions Osama bin Laden
will be dead or captured during his first term as
President. Can you believe he stated the troops may be
home in 2013? THIS IS CRAZY!!!! CLICK

Remember
this coming Tuesday, May 20th; Kentucky and Oregon
will hold their primaries and Idaho's primary is on May 27th.
Please do go out and
vote...vote...vote!!!!
As these primaries approach, please keep talking, sharing and coming up with
solutions regarding this important RACE issue.
I leave
you with the same statement I have left you with every week. "Please
remember to
judge Senator Obama on his words, his actions and the content of
his character.
Kindly continue standing up and not
accepting the same old tactics, rhetoric
and old politics. I encourage you to continue talking about race and
the hurtful issues you might have experienced throughout
life. Most importantly let's continue building this movement
and voting for Senator Barack Obama".
With your support and votes Senator
Obama will continue succeeding. We know he is "the
one"..."the one" who absolutely has the
ability and wisdom to move us forward; "the one"
who has the answers to all of the many issues plaguing America
currently, and we know he is "the one" who can take us
forward toward that change we are seeking in a positive
manner. I hope you are looking forward to
the overall change as I am, so lets continue making history
together!!!!"

Before
I close I want to share with you an important correspondence I
received from one of our On-Line Family, which was pretty
thought provoking. He
wanted me to clarify some statements I made in my above weekly
closing remarks about Senator Obama. His questions are as
follows: (1) "Building this movement" and voting for
Obama - What movement? (2) "To move us forward" -
"us"? Who is us? and finally he stated (3)
"I think, taken together, your statements are encouraging
"race and separatism". Is it because Barack
Obama is Black?
Wow, I must
say this gentleman really made me "check" myself for a
minute. Anyway, I think I need to share my response to him
with you, so you too are clear on my position.
| "Us"!
No Sir "Us" is not referring to black.
Therefore, using "Us" in this commentary does
not talk about race.
"Us"
is the people of this
United States of America
who cares about change in Government [the
"movement" refers to this as well]; and Obama
is indeed a candidate of change and represents all
people. He is new to the Government process and he
has the ability to bring all people together (since he
is of an interracial conception).
No one can logically say Obama is black because
he is just as much white as he is black. (Probably more
white than black since he was raised by his white mom
and white grandmother and granddad).
Also, one of the
biggest problems in
America
is race no matter how much you/we might want to overlook
that issue. It’s extremely evident when you turn
on the TV or the Radio and hear all the racist remarks
the hosts and commentators say about this political race
and the one interracial candidate.
I even hear
Clinton
now saying she has the “white blue color voters” and
the “white uneducated voters” in her most recent
speeches. So
no matter what, race is very much an issue and
definitely alive in this campaign.
This race is a
major wound that is tearing
America
apart, and since Obama is a part of the black and white
world (which is the base of the wound).
He therefore, has the ability to close and heal
this terrible wound that flows through the foundation of
America
.
We must not forget
though, for 200 years
America
has been ruled by white folks, even though
America
is suppose to be a melting pot for all races.
It is only logical - since black people built
this country through slave labor, and it is only fair
that black folks receive equal representation in the
leadership of this county.
If you think this
is racist and insights separatism…so be it.
Then, you must ask yourself who is really the racist. |

In closing
keep in your prayers the people of China, the people of Myanmar
(where cyclone "Nergis" slammed into last week); the
people here in America who have lost everything in the fires in
Florida and in the latest Tornadoes. Lets
pray that these natural disasters cease!!!!
