3rd Annual Caribbean Days Conference Pledge to Addresses Caribbean-American Community Challenges

Caribbean People International Collective, Inc. will hold its 3rd Annual Caribbean Days on Capitol Hill Conference from April 3-5, 2006 at the Charles Sumner School Museum & Archives, which is located at 1201 17th Street, NW, Washington DC 20036.

Centering on the theme, “Accepting the Challenges and Securing our Future,” the conference will critically examine interconnected economic, immigration, health and social issues impacting the Caribbean-American community.  Additionally, it will address ways in which Caribbean-Americans can advance their efforts to further the social, economic and political mobility within their homelands.

The Capitol Hill Conference will bring together families, community leaders, policy makers, and practitioners from government and private organizations, both national and international.

Escalating rates of HIV/AIDS crippling the Caribbean Diaspora, high occurrences of cancer in women of color, inadequate health care access, disparities in the education of students of Caribbean descent, new immigration laws and the impact of post 9/11 are among the significant concerns to be discussed at this year’s Capitol Hill Conference.  Seminars include Immigration and Caribbean Families, Educational Strategies and Social Challenges and Realities.

Ultimately, the goal of the Conference is to educate and mobilize the Caribbean-American community and increase partnership among Caribbean-American organizations in order to promote Caribbean-American Development.

In light of the devastating floods and hurricanes in 2005 in which thousands of people have been affected, the Capitol Hill Conference serves as an essential and timely forum to garner national and international attention, as well as advocate for the educational, health, economic and social empowerment of Caribbean citizens.

CPIC, Inc. is a non-profit, 501(C) (3), non-partisan, volunteer organization whose primary mission is to promote healthy lifestyles among persons of color especially Caribbean-American and Caribbean descendent worldwide.
