2002 Costume Descriptions

Arious Entertainment is a full service entertainment company, which takes Caribbean music to the mainstream market of America and the world, we are proud to present to you our array of costumes featuring a variety of styles and colors.  This entire band represents music (which is the theme – “Hit me with music”).  Therefore, all sections represent a popular calypso, or reggae hit song, and they are all decorated with various music notes.

All sections will be featured as Individual Female Costumes except for the 6^th section.  All are designed and Created by Susan Mangatal - Trinisuco

The 6^th Section/Piece “From Wax To Disc” will be featured as a Junior Female and/or Male individual.  All the sections are described below.

1^st Section:   Red Red Wine - The old belief that red automatically means Stop, certainly does not apply here. Red represents excitement and stimulation, and red gives meaning to strength, boldness, and definitely makes a statement…it indicates that danger is to come for those that stand in the way. The fusion of red, blue and gold represents the exhilaration of revelers everywhere on Carnival day. The costume depicts a slower more relaxed pace, yet one that can be equally as numbing to the senses as any of the other sections. The golden crown that adorns the masqueraders head completes the look and creates a numbing effect. This section Red Red Wine represents the # 1 song made popular by UB40.

2^nd Section: Dollar Wine - Deep emerald green and pure silver of this costume blends effortlessly for a regal effect. The color Green shows stability and endurance, and is the color of money.  The colors capture the sunlight and visions of beauty dancing endlessly on the mind. It invites masqueraders to move their hips and sway in an all too familiar motion. Cent, 5 cent, 10 cent, Dollar…Gimmie dollar, dollar, dollar.  Accented by a beautiful headpiece, the costume is complete and ready to be danced along Georgia Ave.  This section represents the very popular and # 1 soca hit “Dollar Wine”

3^rd Section: Jammette - Not for the faint of heart, this costume brings out the real me in all of us.  It is for feeling uninhibited and carefree.  To further explain it…“bring the freak out in you”. The rich jewel-tone purple and shimmering gold, of this costume are enhanced further by the gold beads which dances in tune with the revelers movements. The flowing cape and impressive head-dress compliments the costume further, and indeed is a great representation of the Queen herself, Ms Saucy-Wow – Denise Belfon. 

4^th Section: Liquid  - This section demonstrates tranquility, a sense of serenity, and serves as a symbol of love.  The smooth as satin royal blue that is Liquid, flows easily against the masqueraders skin, like the ocean.  The portrayal creates an image of the Caribbean sea on a bright and sunny day. It is a memory held dear by many people who travel for hours annually to be a part of this fabulous celebration. The silver accents and feathered head-dress compliments the strong foundation perfectly. This piece symbolizes liquid a popular reggae riddim with a popular dance to go along with it called the log on. 

5^th Section: Coal Pot – This section features the color Orange, which is associated with the sun and also having a warming and invigorating effect.  Orange is stimulation to emotions.  Amid a sea of vibrant orange revelers in Coal Pot are reminiscent of hot, glowing embers. The portrayal depicts the journey that soca music has taken and the heights to which it aspires. The costume it self is beautifully created blending a kaleidoscope of colors for a regal effect. The two-piece design with headdress and standard allow for freedom of movement and total enjoyment on Carnival Day.  This section “Coal Pot” represents the Soca band Traffic # 1 song.

6^th Section: From Wax to Disc - This Section indeed represents the evolution of the forms of how music was recorded.  First there was a record, which was popular for most of the 20^th century, and as we progress to the 21^st century we have the CD, which is how we listen to music now.  Please notice the CD’s and the records on the piece, which represents the theme of the costume “from wax to disc”.
