Christmastime-A
sense of Joy and Merriment!
 The
most joyful day of the year for many is exactly
one week away. Yes, Christmas is upon
us…in fact, it’s here! A sense of
great joy and merriment engulfs our every being
and everything around us comes alive.
Gosh, it's such a pleasant magical time, one
that is for the family, giving, spreading good
cheer, reverence, love, forgiveness, and for
many of us the gratitude for Jesus Christ.
Most importantly it's a time for healing and
renewed strength.
Indeed
the Spirit of Christmas surrounds us completely,
the streets are more crowded than usual, and the
stores are jam-packed with people struggling to
get their hands on the best presents and
goodies. I find as I drive home each night
I am extremely mesmerized by the Christmas
decorations on the homes in my neighborhood, the
decorative lights twinkling and glittering
making everything festive and ohhh so bright,
cheery and beautiful.
Christmas
is truly a global celebration, and traditions
and customs may change from place to place;
however, the festive spirit is the same all
around the world. Without a doubt since
Christmas is just around the corner we all are
busy preparing hard to celebrate the real
meaning of Christmas in our own varied and
innovative way.
Merry
Christmas * Happy
Hanukkah * Happy Kwanzaa
* Feliz Navidad!

To
many the religious significance is the true and
deeper meaning of Christmas, and from the many
responses and questions I received from many of
you after last week's e-mail, it is obvious that
Jesus Is The Reason For The
Season!!!!
The
true meaning of Christmas - A time of God
showing his great love for all mankind, and most
importantly the celebration of the birth of the
Christ Child "Jesus."
Merry
Christmas
- God
sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to be
born. His birth brought great joy to the
world. Shepherds, wise men, and angels all
shared in the excitement of knowing about this
great event. They knew this was no ordinary
baby. The prophets had told of His coming
hundreds of years before. The star stopped
over Bethlehem just to mark the way for those
who were looking for this special child. This
special child took the form of man to make it
easier for us to love him, and because of love
for him we love our fellow men.
The
true meaning Christmas" Luke 2: 4-19
says: (Courtesy of CBN.net)
"So Joseph also went up from the
town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to
Bethlehem the town of David, because he
belonged to the house and line of David. He
went there to register with Mary, who was
pledged to be married to him and was
expecting a child. While they were there,
the time came for the baby to be born, and
she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She
wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a
manger, because there was no room for them
in the inn.
And
there were shepherds living out in the
fields nearby, keeping watch over their
flocks at night. An angel of the Lord
appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord
shone around them, and they were terrified.
But the angel said to them, "Do not be
afraid. I bring you good news of great joy
that will be for all the people. Today in
the town of David a Savior has been born to
you; he is Christ the Lord.
This
will be a sign to you: You will find a baby
wrapped in cloths and lying in a
manger." Suddenly a great company of
the heavenly host appeared with the angel,
praising God and saying,
"Glory to God in the highest, and on
earth peace to men on whom his favor
rests."

When the angels had left them and gone
into heaven, the shepherds said to one
another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see
this thing that has happened, which the Lord
has told us about." So they hurried off
and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who
was lying in the manger. When they had seen
him, they spread the word concerning what
had been told them about this child, and all
who heard it were amazed at what the
shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured
up all these things and pondered them in her
heart."

Happy
Hanukkah
- Hanukkah begins every year during
this special season on the 25th of the
Jewish Month of "Kisley and is
celebrated for eight days and
nights. Therefore, this year
Hanukkah began on December 11th at
sundown ends on December 19th.
The
Festival of Lights: Hanukkah
is the most widely celebrated
American Jewish holiday, possibly
because it is a fun, child-centered
occasion. It is celebrated with
excellent food, exchanging gifts,
and lighting beautiful menorahs
(special Hanukkah candelabras)
filled with brightly colored
candles. Unlike some of the other
Jewish holidays, which require
intense spiritual reflection or
elaborate preparation, it is easy to
celebrate.
Many Jewish holidays commemorate
events invested with historical and
religious meaning, and Hanukkah is
no exception. Hanukkah
means
"rededication," and it
commemorates the rededication of the
Temple in Jerusalem after its
desecration by foreign forces. The
celebration also reaffirms the
continuing struggle to live by God's
commandments and to lead Jewish
lives.
When all is said and done, perhaps
the most important message of
Hanukkah may be found in the name of
the holiday itself: Dedication. When
Jews have dedicated themselves,
through faith and action, to the
pursuit of high religious and human
ideals, Judaism has been strong.
That imperative, to strengthen our
religion and our people, remains an
important challenge at this season,
in every generation.

is celebrated during this special
season traditionally from December
26th through January 1st
Kwanzaa
is an African-American cultural
holiday conceived and
developed by Dr. Maulana Ron Karenga
in 1966. Each day of Kwanzaa
focuses on Nguzo Saba, or the seven
principles- "matunda ya kwanza"
which means first fruits, Kwanzaa is
rooted in the first harvest
celebrations practiced in various
cultures in Africa, and it seeks to
(1) enforce a connectedness to
African cultural identity, (2)
provide a focal point for the
gathering of African peoples, and
(3) to reflect upon the Nguzo Saba,
or the seven principles, that have
sustained Africans. Africans and
African - Americans of all religious
faiths and backgrounds practice
Kwanzaa.
NGUZO
SABA - The 7 Principles of Kwanzaa
Umoja
(Unity) To strive for and maintain
unity in the family, community,
nation and race.
Kujichagulia (Self-Determination) To
define ourselves, name ourselves,
create for ourselves and speak for
ourselves.
Ujima (Collective Work and
Responsibility) To build and
maintain our community together and
make our brother's and sister's
problems our problems and to solve
them together.
Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics) To
build and maintain our own stores,
shops and other businesses and to
profit from them together.
Nia (Purpose) To make our collective
vocation the building and developing
of our community in order to restore
our people to their traditional
greatness.
Kuumba
(Creativity) To do always as much as
we can, in the way we can, in order
to leave our community more
beautiful and beneficial than we
inherited it.
Imani (Faith) To believe with all
our heart in our people, our
parents, our teachers, our leaders
and the righteousness and victory of
our struggle.

As
I continue counting down to this exciting and
spectacular Holiday, I leave you with a
Christmas Blessing. (Courtesy
of John Greenleaf Whittier - an
influential American Fireside
Poets and ardent advocate of the abolition
of slavery
in the United
States.)
A
Christmas Blessing
During
this Christmas season,
May you be blessed
With the spirit of the season,
which is
peace,
The gladness of the season,
which is
hope,
And the heart of the season,
which is
love
Somehow, not only for
Christmas
But all the
long year through,
The joy that you give to
others
Is the joy
that comes back to you.
And the more you spend in
blessing
The poor
and lonely and sad,
The more of your heart's
possessing
Returns to
you glad.
