THIS WEEK EVENTS IN
WASHINGTON DC AND MORE

WHAT'S HAPPENING by Susan Mangatal Greetings
To all among our on-line family: Last
week we checked out Reggae Artists Capleton and Cocoa Tea at Kili’s Kafe
in DC, and it was “Off the hook”.
We thought the turnout was good, but according to the feedback from
the organizers/promoters it was outstanding.
Thanks to all of you who came out and supported these artists and
the show, I’m sure those who attended would agree that Capleton and
Cocoa Tea’s performances were excellent.
One of the most important things we experienced at this show was
the opportunity to meet and greet all the “Who’s Who in the reggae
music business in MD/DC/VA. Many
local reggae artists and musicians were in attendance, as well as local
promoters, we even saw some local club owners chilling and taking in the
sweet sounds of these artists. Of
course, us being such enthusiasts of the music, we were completely
engulfed in the sweet sounds as well, and was transported to a different
world, a world full of vibes! The
atmosphere was so chilled, that all one could do was sip their drink (Heinekens
in our case) and take in the good vibes.
One special moment for me was when Capleton broke into his hit tune
"Who Do You Think You Are". I love all of Capleton's
music, but I especially love this song, because the lyrics are extremely
"deep". We must send a special shout out to Barry from The Entertainment
Group & West Indian Record Mart, it was a pleasure chilling with him. Additionally, the DJs at this event were pretty good, they dropped some additional rhythms/sounds
that went with Reggae Artist I Wayne's release "Satisfy Her",
(Todd thinks "Satisfy Her" is the wickedest song released this
year, and I must agree with him. He has actually written a video for
what he sees in this song). Needless to say, we were
completely surprised by all the different songs that went with this rhythm,
since our local DJs rarely run the rhythms. At the end of the night
we meet Roots High Power Sound, some DJs out of Columbus Ohio, Todd had an
opportunity to check out their stuff that night and indicated to me that
they were "bad, and they had nuff dub plates too". Yes, I
checked out a dancehall CD they produced, and they are indeed one of the
"baddest" DJs I've heard in a long time. Big Up to Roots
High Power! Well, this concert will
definitely go down as one of DC’s best shows this year.
ANNOUNCEMENT Todd's schedule have finally eased up a bit so he will be back with you next week. You know he has lots and lots to say!!!!

Before closing out we would like to send our condolences to Marlon Shields Family. Our prayers are with you. Marlon touched Todd and my life in a small way, not to mention the many people lives he touched as well. We all are still in shock, because it is so unfair for someone as nice as Marlon to be taken away so abruptly. Marlon will always be in our thoughts. We hope whomever selfishly took Marlon's life be captured very soon. Again our prayers are with you! To our on-line family have a safe Halloween weekend! Until Next Week!
Have
a wonderful weekend! |
