Tuesday, January 15th, 2008, was the birth date of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and
this upcoming Monday (1/21/08) marks the 22nd Anniversary of his/this Federal holiday. Dr. King
paved the way for Peace, Justice, Freedom and equality for all
man.

Dr. King's
dream has pretty much become a reality, and as you know this was not
easy!!! It is quite obvious
that this country has come a long way, because it seems some
blacks have gained economic ground since the early years of the
civil-rights movement. Many of us now live in gated
communities, and it is a fact that black spending power has
increased to approximately $630+ billion dollars. However,
we still have a long way to go, we are still not equal, and
racism certainly still exists in our everyday life, but we must
try to overcome the injustices and work hard towards changing
things. It's clear that society is certainly more tolerant
and has created opportunities for many of us. I am proud
to see in my lifetime a black man (Chicago IL Senator Barack
Obama) running for President; the Secretary of State Dr. Rice
a black woman who is helping formulate U.S.
foreign policy; Oprah Winfrey who is the first black
woman billionaire; several black actors/actresses winning
Academy Awards; Afro-American Mayors, Governors/Asst. Governors;
Supreme Court Justice; Congressmen & Congresswomen;
Senators; Chief of Police; Golfers; Great Athletes; and Entertainers. The fight is far from being over, and we
certainly have a long way to go, but many of Dr. King's dreams
have been accomplished.
Celebrate and
honor this special day by reflecting on all Dr. King's dreams,
and at all our accomplishments in this society.

You must remember some
time ago Dr. King was memorialized and
honored on the National Mall among many great Americans. Dr.
King's monument is the first on the mall honoring an African
American and its design is based in part on Dr. King's 1963
"I Have A Dream" speech. The monument is
being constructed on
the prestigious land which is located along the edge of the
Tidal Basin on a four-acre plot near the Potomac River (midway
between the monuments of Thomas Jefferson and Abraham
Lincoln).
This Memorial is scheduled
to be opened this year, so let's also celebrate this major
accomplishment along with his birthday. Also, this project
